It is with reluctance that theAuthor is induced to print the following Discourse, it having been compiled andwritten without any idea that its publication would have beencalled for; and, moreover, as he has felt it due to thejustification of his own conduct to make a personalreference to himself in its pages, he would fain have beencontented to allow the vindication of his principles to haveended with the public delivery of his Sermon. Having,however, been requested (not by ALL, but) by a majority of his ReverendBrethren, as well as several of the Churchwardens, before whom itwas preached, to give it more general publicity, he feels itwould be both ungracious and ungenerous on his part, if hesuffered his own feelings to oppose their kind (though hebelieves too partial) wishes; and more particularly as they arepleased to consider that its publication, at this Eventful Epochof the Church, will be beneficial, as advocating a safe mediumbetween the extremes of Roman Superstition and ProtestantDissent, and exemplifying the true principles of the ReformedReligion as by law established in these realms.
