DEDICATION.

The following trite sketch of the Philosophy ofNature, dedicates itself to the most noble Championsof Mesmerism, Doctor Elliotson and DoctorAshburner of London, and Doctor Esdaile ofCalcutta, in compliment and grateful acknowledgmentfor having rescued from the fangs of ignorance, envy, and self-conceit, the science of health andknowledge—the science of Mesmerism, which unfoldsthe hitherto unknown wonders of the Animalsystem; and will unfold the wonders of the entireuniverse, when the telescope and microscope arefamiliarly used by the Clairvoyant.

It is not the intention of the present work, thatwhat is herein described should be received as thephilosophy of Nature according to the precisionof Nature; but, through exemplification, on principlesdeduced from the Natural Inertia of Matter,to point out the mode by which the philosophy, which should govern all illustration of physicalphenomena, is discoverable,—the Philosophy ofMechanical Nature.
