PREFACE
The chapters in this book are not based onfiction, they are not drawn from imagination, they are not gems that come from culture andlearning, but are gleaned entirely from therugged school of life, and are for the purposeof cheering the down-hearted to a realizationthat a good life has its just reward, thatthrough continued combat every temptation, obstacle and evil will vanish if a strict observanceof God’s law is kept in carefully treadingin the narrow way.
DEDICATION
To that dear teacher who urged me to goto school when I was past twenty years ofage, and helped to mold in me the true principlesof honor.
To a fine Judge on the Bench whose manyfatherly talks to poor unfortunates, whosefeet had slipped from the narrow way, whohelped me to obey and respect the law.
To a splendid intellectual lawyer, one ofGod’s clean home men, whose guest I havebeen at many intellectual feasts, to him I owethe avoidance of the saloon and learned theintrinsic value of sobriety.
To my two eldest sisters, one sister-in-law,and my devoted wife through whom I learnedthe desperate struggle and what it means tolive clean.
To a poorly paid self-educated minister towhom I am deeply indebted for the first introductionto my master.
To these in the major part, and a fewothers, God bless them all, I owe whatever Iam to them, to these dear people I affectionatelydedicate this book.
