A little Manual adapted to assist the enquiring stranger inhis perambulation around Shrewsbury having been long required, anardent attachment to his native place, and compliance with thewishes of many friends whose opinions demand respect, arecircumstances that have induced the present writer to undertakethe task, in which he has been materially assisted by thepossession of several volumes of SalopianAnnals, or memoranda of all the principal events that haveoccurred in the town for several past years, the collectionwhereof has afforded him a pleasing recreation in those scraps oftime snatched from active professional avocations—periodswherein every one has his favourite pursuit, and in which anyindividual may, by prudently employing them for his own pleasure,not unfrequently render himself useful to others.
It may be further stated that the present design is purelypatriotic; and whilst no expence has been spared in the numerousembellishments, candour and truth (combined with accuracy andconciseness) have been carefully observed throughout a moreextensive field of local information and graphical illustrationthan has heretofore been cultivated in any previous work adaptedas a Guide through the Me
